Tips on naming your Customers, Suppliers and Products

Unleashed gives you full flexibility of naming Customer, Supplier or Product data. Here we present a list of key points that will help you stay in control and ensure you have a consistent and organized approached when naming Customers, Suppliers and Products.

Customers

  • Ensure that each customer code is unique. No customers should share the same code.
  • Ensure that each customer has a meaningful code, this could be something related to the Customer itself, a mix of alpha-numeric characters is usually a good start. You can also use other basic symbols such as - or _.
  • Try to avoid using '0' or '00' at the beginning of your customer codes.
  • When assigning codes, make sure you are consistent in your naming convention. Having criteria or naming convention standard may help with this.

Suppliers

  • Ensure that each supplier code is unique. No product should share the same code.
  • Ensure that each supplier has a meaningful code, this could be something related to the supplier itself, again a mix of alpha-numeric is possible, and you can always use other basic symbols such as - or _.
  • Try to avoid using '0' or '00' at the beginning of your supplier codes.
  • If you have a series of similar suppliers, think about using variants of the same supplier code.

Products

  • Ensure that each product code is unique. No products should share the same code.
  • Ensure that each product has a meaningful code, this could be something related to the product itself, again a mix of alpha-numeric is good, and you can always use other basic symbols such as - or _. Try to avoid using '0'or '00' at the beginning of your product codes.
  • If you have a series of similar products, think about using variants of the same product code.
